The Battle of Mutara was a battle fought in 1 ABY between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire during the Galactic Civil War. It's aftermath saw the destruction of the first Imperial Death Cube DC-1 Orbital Battlestation and Captain John Taggart's first step to becomng a full fledged Jedi Knight.

The Battle[]

The Rebel fleet, which greatly outnumbered the number of starships gathered previously at the Battle of Yavin, gathered near the location where Voyager exited the hyperlane. The Death Cube exited the hyperlane and ordered the Rebels to surrender their ships.

The Rebel fleet opened fire, but to minimal effect. The defense perimeter was quickly shattered, with numerous ships being lost, as the cube continued on unrelentingly towards the Rebel base. The Excelsior class Regula was among the first ships destroyed, with its saucer section partially vaporized while approaching. The Enterprise, under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard, was eventually neutralized after sustaining heavy damage, along with the MC80 Emancipator. When the Buckner and the Yosemite rushed to rescue their trapped sister ships, they, too, were destroyed, along with numerous other starships entering the combat zone. The surviving ships, however, including the Endeavour and the Intrepid, assaulted the cube all the way to the Sol system.

Admiral Janeway attempted to rally the fleet for a final attack on the cube, but her flagship was neutralized shortly thereafter. However, by this point in the battle, the fleet had succeeded in dealing heavy damage to the cube's outer hull, causing fluctuations in their power grid. Captain John Taggart from the Endeavour, assumed command of the fleet. Using the Force, he ordered all weapons to be targeted on a seemingly non-critical point on the cube. The resulting barrage destroyed the cube, though the explosion also claimed several nearby starships.
