The Noonday Sun was an Aurore class freighter with a storied history stretching back to the decades before the Clone Wars and the rise of the Galactic Empire. Manufactured by Koensayr Manufacturing in 70 BBY, the freighter was first owned by the Trade Federation and underwent several name changes before being bought by the smuggler Bentral Karn in 54 BBY, and the ship eventually ended up as the property of the Star Tours travel agency. It was sold to the secretive Republic Group under the name Far Beyond the Stars in 46 BBY, and by 20 BBY it was piloted by Otkar Evoros. Under this name, it went on to serve the Unified Resistance against the Galactic Empir, but was heavily damaged in the Omarion Nebula, but it was rebuilt and served various owners under different names before merchant and former Jedi Master Camil Fon named it the Noonday Sun, and it eventually fell into the hands of the smuggler and son of Otkar Evoros, Garlen Evoros several years later.
Evoros and his Squib copilot, Squidarabevee, became the ship's permanent owners, flying the Noonday Sun during their smuggling careers and their subsequent work with the Alliance to Restore the Republic; a charter flight to Brodo Asogi saw Evoros and the Sun embroiled in the Alliance's affairs. His misadventures continued to draw him back to the Rebels and Commander Tru Dasda, and the Sun was present for many pivotal battles of the Galactic Civil War such as the Battle of Hoth, Endor, and Kaleb VI.
History[]
In 70 BBY, the Aurore class freighter 13Y7647DEC-B rolled off a Kuat Drive Yards assembly line. Remaining in stock state for several years, it was first owned by the Trade Federation and became part of the Trade Federation Merchant Fleet, who possessed the ship for twelve years and utilized it as a shipping vessel throughout the galaxy. Developing a reputation as a stubbornly unreliable and remarkably swift vessel, the freighter flew under a series of names—including the Corell's Pride, Fickle Flyer, and Meetyl's Misery. During the twelve years under the Federation, a number of pilots flew the YT-1300 with varying degrees of success, with one pilot making a run to Bajor in record time while another was marooned over five hundred kilometers from Selonia with an entire cargo of reproducing tribbles. Every pilot retrofitted and tinkered with the vessel in a series of makeshift repairs and retoolings—one pilot was forced to install a poorly-built pulse generator, and a later navigator nearly destroyed the ship's Fabritech transceiver relay with a hydrospanner when it refused to work. It was only kept by the trade group for logistical reasons before an accident resulting in the destuction of one and severe damage on another LH-3010 cargo freighter forced the company to sell it to Bajoran smuggler Bentral Karn.
